COLA Label Pre-Check is a tool that analyzes your beer, wine, or spirits labels for TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) compliance before you submit your official COLA application. It helps identify potential issues like missing required elements, incorrect health warning formatting, or type size violations.

TTB requires the health warning and certain other text to meet minimum type size requirements (measured in millimeters). By providing your label's physical dimensions, we can calculate the actual size of text in your image and verify it meets the requirements:

• ≤237ml containers: 1mm minimum
• 237ml - 3L containers: 2mm minimum
• >3L containers: 3mm minimum

Yes! You can upload up to 3 labels (Front, Back, and Neck/Strip). TTB reviews labels as a complete set, so required elements can appear on any label. Our tool analyzes all uploaded labels together and verifies that all required elements are present somewhere in the set.

We accept JPG and PNG images, up to 1.5MB per label. This matches the requirements of TTB's COLAs Online system. For best results, use images at 120-170 DPI resolution.

• Warnings (⚠️): Potential issues that need manual verification, or items where our confidence is lower.
• Pass (✅): Elements that were verified as compliant.

All alcohol beverage labels must include:

• Brand Name: The name of your product
• Class/Type: e.g., "Lager", "Cabernet Sauvignon", "Bourbon Whiskey"
• Name & Address: Producer/bottler with statement like "Brewed by" or "Produced and bottled by"
• Net Contents: Volume in ml, L, oz, etc.
• Alcohol Content: % alcohol by volume (ABV)
• Health Warning: The government warning statement
• Country of Origin: Required for imported products

The exact text required is:

GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.

Formatting requirements:

• "GOVERNMENT WARNING" must be in ALL CAPS and BOLD
• The rest of the text must NOT be bold
• Must be a continuous paragraph (no line breaks mid-sentence)
• Must meet minimum type size for your container

TTB requires minimum type sizes based on container volume:

• 8oz (237ml) or less: 1mm minimum
• 8oz to 3 liters: 2mm minimum
• Over 3 liters: 3mm minimum

Type size is measured by the height of lowercase letters (x-height), not capitals.
